Contact the Agency to apply to become a foster parent.
Someone will contact you to answer any questions you may have and begin the application process.
An Agency records check for all persons over the age of 18 living in the prospective foster family home must be completed. This is to ensure the family has not been the subject of any abuse or neglect involving a child.
Once this is completed, an application is sent to the prospective foster family.
The application is detailed and requires both parties to respond to the questions.
A criminal record check is required for all those over the age of 18 living in the home. Having a criminal record check does not mean, necessarily, that you cannot be a foster parent. It will mean further discussion as to the nature and seriousness of the criminal offence as well as when it occurred.
Five references must be provided by the applicant(s) to support the application to foster.
Medical references must be provided by each applicant and followed up by a medical examination indicating the applicants are able to care for a child or youth.
Once an application is received, a worker will contact applicants to register in PRIDE training.
SAFE home study process begins. All applicants are required to attend this training before the home study can be approved.
