Foster Families Honoured

Local families honoured for outstanding work with foster children

The Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society (KHCAS) is pleased to announce the recipients of several important awards:

Bell Lifetime Achievement Award: Developed in 2005, this award recognizes the long years of service and continued enhancement of the lives of children. This year the award went to Joanne Baal. Joanne began fostering in June, 1999. Joanne was recognized for her generous nature, brilliant teaching ability, quiet activism, and her work nurturing and improving the quality of life of the children she fosters.

Foster Parent of the Year Award:  Developed in 1992 in an effort to recognize foster parents for all their hard work, dedication, and commitment to caring for some difficult children with the KHCAS. This year the award went to Barb & Wayne Dyer for their unwavering commitment to respectfully navigate difficult situations, motivated by their deep love for a child in their care.

Dion Children’s Lifebook Award: Barb Spence was recognized for her work in creating wonderful, creative Lifebooks, capturing key aspects of the lives of children in her care.

“I’m continually amazed by the patience, care and dedication of our foster parents,” said Marion Duguid, resource supervisor with the CAS. "Their commitment to the foster children in their care, day in and day out, through whatever life puts in front of them is truly outstanding," said Duguid.
