Tentative Agreement Reached

KHCAS and OPSEU Local 334 reach tentative agreement; Workers back on the job on Monday afternoon.

KHCAS is very happy to announce that we have reached a tentative settlement. Approximately 120 child protection and administrative support staff at the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society will be back on the job Monday, December 5.

“We are very pleased to have reached a tentative agreement and be returning to full service for children and families in the community,” says Suzanne Geoffrion, Interim Executive Director of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society.

“It may take a little time for things to fully return to normal. We greatly appreciate the continued patience of families and community partners as we get systems re-established and return to full service,” says Geoffrion.

After three days of intense and extensive bargaining this week, and almost eight weeks off the job both sides have come to an agreement we feel is in the best interests of children, staff, and the organization as a whole,“ says Geoffrion. “I trust that this agreement will mark a positive turning point for the organization.”

Last year, the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society received 3,036 referrals about possible abuse and neglect of children and youth. Staff completed 1,140 investigations and served 798 families.
