Youth in Care

Youth In CareOur Youth in Care group meets twice per month and plans additional social and recreational activities. The group serves youth 13 to 18 years of age.

The purpose of the group is to provide a safe opportunity for youth to share their experiences as youth in care by enhancing peer relationships with other youth in care, through a variety of activities including:

  • Life skills training (cooking, budgeting, etc.);
  • Sexual health;
  • Physical activity and social events; and
  • Group discussions on drug and alcohol abuse, violence and personal safety.

In addition, we’ve created smaller youth groups to address emerging needs like youth at risk of exploitation.

Some of the extra social recreational activities are:

  • Trips to Toronto for Raptors games, Leafs games, the Science Centre, musicals, Canada’s Wonderland and the CNE; and
  • Holiday activities such as Christmas dinner, Valentines parties, etc..

Regular scheduled activities include going to movies at the Galaxy Cinema, Cards and Games nights and Craft nights.

In the future, we would like to see this youth group program network with other local agencies and neighboring Children’s Aid Societies.

We are grateful for our continual financial support provided by the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation
