\"AThe Margaret Davies Bursary Program was established in honor of the KHCF\u2019s founder, Margaret Davies. \u00a0Prior to the Kawartha-Haliburton Children\u2019s Foundation\u2019s bursary program’s inception, youth transitioning from care into independent living were often struggling financially and were not always able to continue their education.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the life-enriching experiences offered by the foundation, like our summer camp program, were having an indirect effect on the number of students wishing to attend post-secondary institutions.\u00a0 Our ongoing programs are designed to help build self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-confidence, which encourage children and youth to pursue their dreams and work toward reaching their life goals.<\/p>\n

Education is key to developing life skills and workplace readiness. The supports offered by donors today assist growing numbers of youth transition from care and into post-secondary education or job training programs.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Foundation provides over $185,000 annually in bursary funding to former in-care youths pursuing post-secondary education or training that leads to a certificate or license.<\/p>\n
