Be a Kid for a Day<\/b><\/p>\n

Participants from Peterborough and the Kawartha\u2019s descended on Camp Kawartha on May 28th for the 7th annual \u201cBe a Kid for a Day\u201d. It was a day of teamwork and laughter and we are happy to announce that this year Team Pete received the coveted \u201cBAKFAD Cup\u201d. \u00a0Of course, the true winners of the day were the kids. The event brought in nearly $17,000 to help send children to summer camp.<\/p>\n

Once again we are so proud of our graduates \u2013 6 grade 8, 4 grade 12 and 4 College students who graduated this May. We celebrated our graduates\u2019 success along with the KHCAS as part of their Youth in Care Day on May 12, 2016. We now have 24 former Crown Wards attending post-secondary institutions receiving $1,000 per semester towards their tuition and books through the Margaret Davies Bursary.<\/p>\n

Salad Days<\/b><\/p>\n

Salad Days was a Smashing Success again this year. Leo and Catherine have gathered quite a following at their Lettuce Stand in Peterborough. Fresh local lettuce was being sold $3 a head and beautifully arranged bouquets of local flowers by Wild Imagination (aka Louise Warner), were available for only $10 with all proceeds going to the Kawartha-Haliburton Children\u2019s Foundation.<\/p>\n

Backpacks for Kids<\/b><\/p>\n

Thank you so much to Bell Canada for donating the backpacks, and Kathryn Johnson for her coordination and to Heather Irvine who donated $500 of for age appropriate school supplies. Employees from Bell, Expertech and their friends and families have filled over 100 backpacks that were delivered to children in need in our community.<\/p>\n

Behind Closed Doors<\/b><\/p>\n

This year the Foundation was one of 9 local charities invited to take part in an event at Lansdowne Place Mall called \u201cBehind Closed Doors,\u201d a private shopping event for ticket holders. It was and exciting evening, the Mall was filled with shoppers and our display booth saw a lot of people stopping by to play Plinko, ask questions and visit with our wonderful volunteers.\u00a0 On September 23, Kim Fenton and Deb Aben attended the cheque presentation ceremony at the Mall and were pleasantly surprised to accept a cheque for $2195.90.<\/p>\n

A Banner Year for the 2016 Dream Ball<\/b><\/p>\n

On November 19th, the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation held its 22nd annual Dream Ball at the Victoria Park Armoury in Lindsay.\u00a0 This was a banner year for the Dream Ball.\u00a0 The Foundation would like to thank its many generous sponsors who donated over $35,000 and to the nearly 100 donors of both live and silent auction items.\u00a0 The combined total raised at both auctions was over $46,000 – incredible!\u00a0 Net proceeds of $85,000 will go towards the Foundation’s 2017 Summer Camp Fund which provides camp experiences to young people in need.<\/p>\n

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation was very excited to join Peterborough\u2019s Giving Tuesday Campaign on Tuesday, November 29th.\u00a0 This year the Foundation chose to have funds raised through its Giving Tuesday campaign support the Carolyn Mills’ Sweet Dreams initiative which provides brand new pyjamas and bedding to children receiving services from the Kawartha-Haliburton CAS.\u00a0 In addition, the campaign was also about inspiring volunteers to assist with the Santa’s Sleigh.\u00a0 We also received over 100 gifts in our Santa\u2019s Sleigh that day.<\/p>\n

The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation in association with the Peterborough and Kawarthas Association of Realtors\u00ae was very excited to host the 27th annual “Santa’s Sleigh” at Walmart, Chemong Road in Peterborough.\u00a0 This year the Foundation was so grateful to have had the support of Corus Entertainment (The Wolf 101.5, CHEX Peterborough and 100.5 Fresh Radio) as media sponsor for the event. \u00a0 Over 1,100 local children and youth in our community received a special gift thanks to the generosity of many donors who ensured that Christmas wishes could once again be fulfilled.<\/p>\n

For the past 15 years Sears Canada has supported the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation through the Tree of Wishes.\u00a0 This initiative collects gifts for local youth, from infants to teenagers, who are receiving services from the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society.\u00a0 The Tree of Wishes helped approximately 200 children this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
