Chelsey McGowan joined the board in 2026. She is a Registered Social Worker, completing her Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2024.
Throughout her previous program management work in the non-profit sector, experience in the medical system, limited but valuable experience on other Boards of Directors, and studies in Social Work, she has discovered and nurtured a passion and skill for supporting various demographics, including children, youth, families, and caregivers.
During her MSW, she completed a practicum with the Child Welfare Truth Telling Collective, where she gained a deeper understanding of the child welfare system as a whole, and ignited a passion for supporting the youth in her community. Since this experience, she had been searching for a way to reconnect with the child welfare system in a way that allows her to support and develop, without being on the frontlines. This Board of Directors position fits into this area, and when the opportunity arose, she knew she needed to get involved.
Chelsey has held various volunteer and supporting roles in the youth sector throughout the last 10 years she has lived in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes areas, including being a guest speaker at the launch of the Peterborough Youth Substance Use Prevention program.
Personally, she is a “fur-mom” to her corgi, Riot, and her 2 cats, Goose and Turtle.
