The Margaret Davies Bursary Fund was established in 2005 in honour of KHCF founder Margaret Davies. Prior to the KHCF bursary program’s inception, it was rare for youth in transition from care into independent living to pursue a post-secondary education.
Interestingly, the life-enriching programs offered by the Foundation, such as our annual summer camp program, have demonstrated an indirect positive effect on the number of students attending post-secondary institutions. All of our ongoing programs are designed to help build self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-confidence, which encourage children and youth to pursue their dreams and to reach their goals in life.
Education is one key to developing life skills and workplace readiness. With the supports offered by the Foundation today, many more youth transition from their Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society support programs to attend post-secondary education or job training programs.
Every year, the Foundation provides bursaries to all youth in transition who are pursuing post-secondary education. Each student receives $2,000.00 per semester through our Margaret Davies Bursary Fund to assist with education related expenses, such as tuition and books. This fund has assisted 175 independent youth with education related expenses since 2002.
