Child Safety Equipment Support was added to the Thrive Fund in 2022. Originally we provided safe cribs and mattresses for families involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society who did not have the financial means to purchase these items. In 2023 we expanded to include funding for other infant safety items, such as highchairs, and gates for families who do not have the financial means to purchase these items. Even with the expansion, the majority of the requests (over 80%) are still for cribs. The Foundation aims to make sure families have access to the necessary safety equipment to keep the children in their care safe.

Meet Lila
As a child Lila became involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society due to difficulties she faced at home. Now as a young parent she remains connected to KHCAS to help support herself and her two toddlers. Lila is a single parent and works hard to provide the best life for her children. However, living on a single income means she often cannot provide anything beyond the essentials. And even some essential items are inaccessible for Lila.
However, thanks to generous donors and funders Lila was able to access the Thrive Fund – Child Safety Equipment Program at the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation. Through this program the Foundation provided a large double stroller wagon that has allowed Lila and her babies to take public transport and explore the city more safely.
This stroller has been life-changing for Lila who now can take her two toddlers out of the house without worrying about their safety. Furthermore, Lila can use the money she had been saving for this stroller to redirect towards other important needs such as groceries and rent.
