Supporting Children and Youth Involved with the Kawartha Haliburton Children's Aid Society

Youth Living Independently

Every year the Foundation is committed to providing  gift cards to youths aged 16 – 25 transitioning from Foster Care to living on their own.

It is often a struggle for these youth, and without supports many end up on the streets.  The KHCAS social workers remain in contact with the youth to ensure that they receive essential services and guidance as they learn to live on their own.  In addition, three times a year the Foundation provides an allotment of gift cards to assist with groceries, clothing and  personal hygiene products.

The Foundation covers the enrolment costs of the Creating Roots housing education and mentorship program to help youth get ready for independent living.  On moving day a moving truck and new bed are provided for the youth.
