Planned Giving

When you give a gift to the Foundation it means that you are structuring your gift to maximize tax benefits and achieve personal financial goals, while giving very vital support to a cause in which you believe.

There are many ways you can give, and it is important for you to find the right method. When you are ready to move forward we would be pleased to assist you in any way possible.

Present Day Giving

Cash Donations

This is the simplest way to give and your gift goes to work right away. You will receive a tax receipt for the full amount that results in immediate tax savings for you.  You can make a donation today by cash, cheque, Visa/Mastercard, or make an online donation by way of a secure donations page through Canada Helps.

Future Giving

Life Insurance Giving

A gift of life insurance can provide a noteworthy future gift to the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation at a very reserved cost to you at the present time. You can make a gift such as this with your existing policy or a new one.

When you make the Foundation the owner and beneficiary of a new policy, you will receive a tax receipt for each premium you pay and then upon your death the proceeds would go to the Foundation.

Listed Securities Giving

Listed securities donated to a registered charity are no longer subject to capital gains tax. You can make a donation through the use of an electronic transfer however the Foundation suggests that you meet with your financial advisor before you proceed with donating securities.

Bequest by Will

This method of giving means that you can simply add a paragraph in your will where you bequest any amount or asset you own to the Foundation. This is a wonderful way of giving that provides a legacy in your name.

Charitable Remainder Trust

You may use many different assets to establish a Charitable Remainder Trust that will benefit you and/or your heirs for life.  The remaining interest in the trust could be earmarked for the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation.

Charitable Lead Trust

A Charitable Lead Trust enables you to transfer assets to heirs with a lower tax burden.  You may designate the KHCF to receive the benefits from the trust for a specific period of time before the assets go to designated heirs.

Charitable Gift Annuity

A Charitable Gift Annuity enables you to transfer cash or marketable securities to the Foundation.  In return, you will receive fixed annual payments for life or a set period of time.  You will be entitled to a charitable income tax deduction for the year in which the lift annuity is created.

CRA Assets

Many investors are beginning to realize that upon their death, unused CRA assets will be heavily taxed.  In fact, it’s been estimated that estate and income taxes could consume anywhere from 60-80% of the money remaining in CRA assets.  You can avoid income and estate tax on retirement accounts, by naming the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation as your partial or full beneficiary on retirement accounts.
