As we approach December 6, which marks Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against women, we take a moment to pause and remember the 14 women murdered at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6, 1989. With this remembrance, comes a reflection and connection to our community and current acts of violence against women that continue to impact women and children daily in our community. The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society remains committed to the collective responsibility to confront violence against women and to be mindful of the impact domestic violence exposure has on children and youth. We work in collaboration with our community partners in the VAW sector and remain committed to working towards better outcomes for those impacted by domestic violence.
