Many families involved with the child welfare system deal with parental substance abuse issues. Research shows that good working relationships and collaborations between child welfare and addiction services are supported through securing sound processes and protocols and evolving program and practice innovations. The Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society has active engagements, partnerships and protocols with the local addiction service providers to enhance opportunities for families and individuals. Where substance abuse has been identified as placing a child at risk, to access services for service recipients are expedited through these partnerships. Mitigating the impact of substance misuse for the children is always the priority.
