On January 1st, 2020, Part X, a new section of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA) came into effect. Part X is a legislative framework for managing the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by service providers. Part X explains an individual’s right to request access and correction to their record of personal information.
The CYFSA recognizes the sharing of personal information in order to plan and provide services, is key for creating successful outcomes for children, youth and their families. This emphasis on using best practices to record and share information imposes an obligation and accountability by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario for ensuring that Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society’s policies, procedures and practices meet the requirements of Part X.
The implementation of Part X presents an opportunity to work towards greater consistency and uniformity of policy and practice among Ontario’s Children’s Aid Societies, Indigenous Child Well-being Agencies, and other service providers in the children’s services sector.
Our Agency is committed to understanding and meeting the requirements of the Part X privacy framework and supporting the consistent application of the specific requirements under Part X for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, as well as responses to access and correction requests.
