Children and Youth in Care Day 2026

On May 14th, we recognize Children and Youth in Care Day, a time to honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of children and youth in Society Care.

With Children and Youth in Care Day approaching, it provides an opportunity to reflect on our shared responsibility to ensure that every young person feels seen, supported, and connected.

This year, we are joining other children’s aid societies and Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agencies (child welfare agencies), the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS), and Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada (CAFC) in continuing the #ForgetMeNot campaign. This campaign shares the stories of young people with lived experience in care, alongside the supportive adults and relationships that helped shape their journeys.

At its core, the campaign asks a simple but powerful question – “Are you there for kids in care?”

It is a reminder that children and youth in care continue to need strong networks, meaningful relationships, and consistent support – they cannot be forgotten.

Children and Youth in Care Day exists to:

  • Recognize the strengths, identities, and achievements of young people in care
  • Raise awareness of their unique experiences and challenges
  • Encourage allyship, advocacy, and community involvement
  • Help reduce stigma and build understanding

As a child welfare agency, we reaffirm our commitment to:

  • Being present, reliable, and responsive in the lives of children and youth.
  • Strengthening connections with families, caregivers, and communities
  • Amplifying youth voices and lived experiences
  • Creating opportunities for belonging, growth, and success

Today, and every day, we are called to show up, to listen, and to act. Whether through our roles, our partnerships, or our everyday interactions, each of us has a part to play.

Let us continue to ensure that children and youth in care are heard, valued, and never forgotten.

Please take time to watch the #ForgetMeNot video that provides a glimpse of 6 young peoples stories who are in and from care, and the influential people in their lives who contributed to their well-being, as well as their #LittleWins.
