From time to time, families may require the support of the agency well after the adoption has been finalized. Those families may call us for assistance.
For some families who experience financial hardship in providing fully for an adopted child, due to the special needs of their adopted child, a Permanency Funding Agreement may be requested in order to secure stability for the child. Permanency Funding Agreements may be considered in situations where a child’s unique needs, coupled with the parent’s ability to meet those needs is considered to be “beyond normal care” of the understood cost of raising children. Permanency Funding Agreements are reviewed annually and shall be considered and renewed in accordance with Legislation, Ministry Regulations/Directives, Regional Adoption policies and procedures, and Ontario Permanency Funding Guidelines. Changes to adoption subsidy practice may occur following the adoption and adoptive families can inquire as to whether any changes apply to their eligibility.
Families may also have support issues that are not financial, and may need assistance understanding which community services may be helpful for their family. We may be able to provide information about community services and support groups appropriate to support the child and family’s needs.
Our Regional Adoption Parenting, Adoption, Learning and Support (PALS) Group runs across our regional program and information can be sent to you by contacting us and asking to be added to our mailing list.
